Franz and Emma were sitting in quiet, reminiscing of their ordeals. They both had different hardships, now they had to accept, evaluate and find a way to go on. Both wore scars, their track had been turbulent, and they both had stoicism to beat the odds and start new life again, together. Emma and Franz needed the quiet moment, finally it gave them both the long needed peace. Their plight had been volatile, the daunting experiences had been erratic for both of them, but totally of different nature. Will they both be able to coalesce, will they have strength to forget the draconian past and build new life on what they had learned through struggles? They will have to learn to listen, share and compromise. They both felt the pain of longing to make up for the unfulfilled dreams, for happiness and reason to live for. Emma had watched the sun go down behind the hill every night, waiting for her husband to come home, she still remembers the night when the big plow disappeared behind the hill. The waiting was in vain, the hill had claimed her husband and their dreams that they shared.
Autumn announced itself with strong winds, the leaves were starting to fall. The power of nature is unshakable, the seasons keep the set ritual to maintain life on our planet. In spring silvery rivulets will be running down the granite rocks along the pathway to the house, erasing the sign of winter. Nature, the powerful conductor of all, will display its power of the melodious symphony that will fill the refreshing spring air, as it has done for centuries, will it also bring happiness to Emma and Franz?
Lara kept reading page after page, she was hoping to find the answers she was looking for. Between the pages she found a very small picture. Were Emma and Franz my grandparents? Dark clouds moved in, it became too dark to read. Lara sat at the window watching the sun disappear behind the cedars, will the morning bring her closer to the missing link in her life?
