My novel “No Time to Cry” has traveled around the globe. I am so touched that it has helped many to sooth their pain and gave support by giving them strength to overcome their ordeals and go on. When I was writing the novel, my most inner wish was to reach out to people with my emotional intelligence, pain is no stranger to me. Finally my novel “No Time to Cry” has arrived home, The National Library of Latvia, “Castle of Light” and proudly sits between the treasures on the shelves, waiting humbly to reach out to readers ,who will be reading a little girl’s story,( that is me, born in Latvia), true story of the dire days during the notorious WWII war that destroyed our country and stole my childhood, my appreciation of my strength, faith and benevolence, I inherited from my homeland, it is a testimonial of how the Latvian spirit can never be broken. “The National Library of Latvia is located on the opposite bank of the river Daugava, across from the historical skyline of old Riga. The library was designed by the internationally acclaimed Latvian born architect Gunnars Birkerts (USA), and is one of the greatest cultural projects of the 21st century in Latvia. On January 18, 2014, in symbolic act, thousands of people created a human chain to pass hand to hand more than 2000 books from the old National Library of Latvia to its new home at the Castle of Light. Why is it called Castle of Light? The form of the building’s exterior refer to two iconic Latvian folklore metaphors-the Glass Mountain and the Castle of Light. Legend has it that the Castle of Light sank when the people were oppressed , but then rose again from the depths of darkness to free the Latvian nation. This is symbolic of the wisdom that was lost in the darkness of war and occupation, but then regained by the Latvian people. The silhouette of the building is reminiscent of the symbolic Glass Mountain, at the top of which a princess is waiting for her saviour – someone brave enough to climb that far. The official opening ceremony took place on Friday, August 29, 2024. The ceremony was attended by President of Latvia, Mr. Andris Berzins, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma, as well as a number of foreign dignitaries. H.R.H. Princess Lautertien of the Netherlands, Founder and Honorary Chair of the Reading and Writing and UNESCO Special Envoy on Literary for Development, who was one of the speakers during the ceremony. In her remarks, Princess Laurentien congratulated the Latvian people with their new National Library, calling it ” a beacon of national pride and inspiration.” From the bottom of my heart, I wish that my book would help the reader to find peace, be able to put the negative behind and have the strength to go on.Life is a gift, cherish every moment and count the blessings: “Dievs sveti Latviju!” ( The Latvian National Anthem ” God Bless Latvia.”)
